A Tribute to Jazz Artist Dave Jackson of the Jackson Bros Quartet

On Saturday April 27th, 2013, there will be a musical memorial to the jazz luminary Dave Jackson by the Ed Jackson Quartet. Dave Jackson passed away April 7th and his brother Edward Jackson, and the talented Ed Jackson Quartet will carry on their scheduled jazz set in his honor.

Dave Jackson was one of the areas most accomplished jazz musicians. He was a highly sought after bass player and jazz historian. Dave played with extraordinary jazz bands and greats like Sonny Rollins, Sonny Fortune, Illinois Jacquet, The Count Basie Orchestra, Jaki Byard, Gloria Lynne, Al Hibbler, Helen Humes, Duke Jordan, Dorothy Donegan, Ahmad Jamal, and Ruth Brown among many others. He also performed or recorded with Kenny Burrell, Weldon Irvine, Roy Haynes, Jimmy McGriff, T.S. Monk and Dakota Staton. He was one of the two founders of the eponymous quartet the Jackson Bros. He will be greatly missed.

Dave Jackson’s younger brother Edward Jackson, and the newly named Ed Jackson Quartet (formerly the Jackson Bros Quartet), will perform in his honor at the attractive neighborhood jazz hall built by Edward Jackson: Jackson Room. Jackson Room is located at 192-07 Linden Blvd, in St Albans, Queens, New York.

Edward Jackson, a prominent entrepreneur in the South Queens tax services industry, is also an acclaimed alto sax player. Edward Jackson, is a graduate of the prestigious New England Conservatory of Music, in Boston,Massachusetts, joined his father’s tax firm after college - however music is his passion.

Ed has played with groups like the pioneering 29th Street Saxophone Quartet which he also founded, Roy Haynes, The Fatback Band, Melba Moore, T.S. Monk, Illinois Jacquet, Ty Stephens and Souljaazz, Weldon Irvine, The Count Basie Band, Donald Blackman and many others.

Edward is also known as an artist with the talent to play various styles of jazz very well while maintaining his own unique style. The renowned George Cables will be on piano, the amazing Adam Kablack on Bass, and the energetic Russsel Carter on drums round out the Ed Jackson Quartet.

Expressing Our Gratitude

We want to thank all of those who came out and supported us at the home going service and funeral of Dave Jackson. It was heart warming to see all of the people who came out to give their respects.

Dave Jackson's music will continue to live on in our hearts and minds.  He could be in heaven now playing his bass with divinely inspired aplomb.  God bless all of you for your condolences and encouraging words.  Again you have our heartfelt thanks.
